The Evans come to town

Well had a great day out with an American family the Evans today and what a cool family.

Susan,Rex,Bill,Grace and Billy seemed like they had a great day out in NZ.

What a cool family,it was a pleasure to guide them on there day in my backyard.

These guy’s had done a bit of fishing but not on the Fly,it didn’t take long and they were into it.

Grace was the star of the show with this nice brownie, what a fish and great to see young kids loving fishing.

A short scenic helicopter flight had us at our back country destination and on to great stretch of river with no one for miles and miles.

It was just the 3 children fishing and they took to it very well, you can see mum and dad watching on from up the bank, what cool parents giving there children a day out fly fishing in NZ.

All smiles,it’s cool when kids love fishing.

Well, I think the smile says it all.

It was a hot day and the boy’s were keen to get in the water themselves.

Getting right into it.

I had to get another one of Grace in here.

A 20 minute stop off on the way back to Queenstown was a great way to polish the day off.

Great fun and great clients, thanks guy’s hope to see you again.

A few day’s off work.

Well, we like to fish so it’s a no brainer what Henare and I got up to when we had a break from guiding for a few days.

You guessed it.

We love getting out there and amongst it, camping river side and spending all day on the water.

When your in area’s like this it’s almost not all about the fishing but the whole picture.

It sure dose make it nice hooking a few in this type of setting.

Even as guides when we fish together we are still guiding each other,it’s just how you do it here, spot fish from either side of the river, call you mate for the strike,it often works better with two on the river.

We spent a lot of time filming and have heaps of video to chop together so stay tuned for that.

There were plenty of fish landed but I want to show you the setting we fish in,this is a big part of why we love our jobs so much.

Happy boy’s.

Making the most of the weather

My guiding buddy Henare Dewes from Dream Waters and I looked after these three fine gentlemen, we were struck with some bad weather but the boy’s were up for it and made the most of there time on the water.

Richard Armarti,Jeff Smith and Scotty King.

Jeff with a nice Brownie

Richard with a hard fighting Bow.

Scotty was all smiles after his girl was set free, what a great fish.

Another great conditioned fish for Scotty.

Now this is a great fish.

This is true Back country kiwi style fishing.

This is the type of fishing we love to do, a real experience of what fly fishing has to offer.

Well a good way to finish the trip, thanks for coming guy’s and hope to see you all again soon.

Great day out

Neil Gill and I headed into a local back country river for the day and had some good hook ups.

We had some great fish on and 1 I beleaved to be a double figure fish but unfortunately after a 25 minute battle the fish won, not to worry we had our chance and there was more to come.

Great way to start the trip.

This was a great tussle to watch and a great conditioned fish,if this is what we are seeing now it’s going to be a great season with fish feeding hard and putting on weight,i think these guy’s have been eating the odd mouse.

As you can see the sun was shinning and it was great to be on the bank of such a fantastic river but catching fish like this makes it even better.Guiding is something I love doing, I go to work with a smile on my face and every day is different, seeing the look on peoples faces after they have experienced landing Trout like these on a back country is awesome,I know what it’s like, the rush, the roller-coaster ride of emotions as you get these fish to the net then they run out another 20 yards of line, to me it’s pretty cool and to do it as a job seems like a privilege.                                                                                                                  http://www.trout-stalkers.co.nz/

Big high and blue skies

Well we have been coping our fare share of weather lately and dealing with a lot of wind so when this big high pressure was pushing on to the country you could almost hear all the fly fishermen breathing a Si of re-leaf.

Jeremy Kemper from the States timed the weather perfect and we had a great day out with over a dozen fish hooked. It’s fun to watch people trying to land these river fish, they fight hard and with some coaching Jeremy got 7 to the bank.

A nice brownie.

I must say it was fun to watch the big man running up and down the bank to get these grunty fish to the net, he did very well.

By now Jeremy was getting comfortable and was getting on his game.

Jeremy is a big man the fish were a little bigger than they look .I know what your thinking.

This is my favorite river, it’s were I first landed a fish on a fly rod and were I learnt to fish with my granddad, to me it’s a special place and to take people there is almost like a treat for me.

Another Bow to cap off the day.
